A Smart Walking Navigation System based on Perceived Exertion
نویسندگان
چکیده
In recent years, the growing trend of personal well-being has led an increasing number of people to engage in walking related activities to improve their physical health. As such, it is becoming increasingly important to develop walking navigation systems which are able to effectively support such activities. The conventional walking navigation systems found in modern smart phone devices usually recommends the shortest route to a destination and are not aimed at facilitating health promoting walking activities. Therefore, in this paper, we propose a novel walking navigation system which takes into consideration the rate of perceived exertion (based on the walking distance, geographical elevation and heart rate data) and the avoidance of dangerous locations and the possibility of passing through highly rated scenic locations (based on social network data from twitter) when recommending a route. Finally, we describe the results of a feasibility experiment study carried out to test the routes in the system. ACM Classification

RESPONSES OF OXYGEN CONSUMPTION, HEART RATE AND PERCEIVED EXERTION TO CRUTCH WALKING: A COMPARISON BE TWEEN PAR APLEGIC AND ABLE-BODIED SUBJECTS
In this study, 10 normal volunteers and 5 sports-trained paraplegics with lesions between T6 and L2 were studied whilst walking with axillary crutches and knee-anlde-foot orthoses. All subjects walked at their preferred speed on a figureof- eight track. Normal subjects also walked at slower and faster speeds. Oxygen consumption, heart rate and rating of perceived exertion were measured. In...
متن کاملRating of Perceived Exertion as an Indicator of Exercise Intensity in Paraplegics
Background: Energy expenditure is of paramount importance in the assessment of usefulness of wheelchair for paraplegics. Despite widespread recognition of problems associated with currently available mobility systems for persons with spinal cord injuries, development of more efficient systems has been slow. Lack of a suitable and simple technique for the assessment of energy expenditure in par...
متن کاملRecommendations for aerobic endurance training based on subjective ratings of perceived exertion in healthy seniors.
The study investigated physiological responses during 2-km walking at a certain intensity of a previously performed maximal exercise test where moderate perceived exertion was reported. Twenty seniors were examined by an incremental walking treadmill test to obtain maximal oxygen uptake (VO2max). A submaximal 2-km walking test was applied 1 wk later. The corresponding moderate perceived exertio...
متن کاملIntegrating Local and Global Routing on Scale-free Networks
Network navigation is one of the main problems in large communication networks. We propose a new routing strategy in which some smart nodes in networks deliver messages to next hops on the paths towards destinations according to Yan's algorithm while the other nodes just deliver messages randomly. We test our routing strategy in a large scale-free network. Simulations show that the average deli...
متن کاملDesigning a Special Training Protocol Based on the Physiological Demands of the Police Station
Background and Aim: Doing military exercises without considering special physiological demands reduces the training efficiency and the inability to achieve goals, as well as the failure to prepare officers for job duties. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to design a special training protocol based on the physiological demands of the Police Station. Methods: The present study was conduct...
